The perspective view is simply an angle that isn't looking straight down. Why can't they have that angle and with the map facing north. I think when you are lost, you really need the map facing north to get perspective on where you are going.
Is the 2D map that confusing? If you're lost, switch to "map facing North" -- once you find your way, perspective will be available to you if that's what you prefer. Sure, having every possible combination available might help (like having a perspecive facing north) but the more things like that they add, there will be people who get more confused...

Hmmm... in an unfamiliar European city, for me, having the map (perspective or 2d) in the direction of travel is the only way.

In that situation, North is irrelevant IMHO.

I like the perspective map. And when im trying to find a place on a map i like to look at the map facing north.

When im driving and want to find something i guess i prefer driving direction.

I was just trying to make sure whether perspective was available facing north and maybe i wasnt doing it right but I guess its just not available.

Thanks...

The only recomendation I would make is for them to have the street names included in the perpective view.

Yep... but I'm lazy... "map" in my E60 is the same as "map facing north".
In my e60 "map" brings up the map in the last view.

If you were last using perspective then perspective view is diplayed.
