Has anyone figured out how to find points of interest in alphabetical order?

It's frustrating when you want to find a destination (hotel, restaurant, etc.) by name, and the system only provides it by "distance" (distance from what...I do not know). Not sure if this would be part of a more recent Navi upgrade or not.

I have to say, my previous 2000 Acura RL navigation system offered far more functionality than the 5 Series version.

Not possible.

Only by distance from your current position, by distance from a destination you enter, or by distance to your current set destination in the nav.

It's distance from where you currently are. I like it by distance, sure being in alphabetical would make it easier if you know the place you want to go already. But if you're just browsing for some place local that you've never been before, having it say the distance is a lot nicer.

I hope they fix this in a software update in the future. I would love to start the navigation process by finding the name of the place I'm trying to go and then navigating there (my portable Garmin GPS does this really well). For example, sometimes I need to meet someone at a specific restaurant in a certain city (and I don't know where the restaurant is). Without the alpha search, I have to scroll by distance from my location - there's almost no way for me to narrow down the choices quickly without scrolling through lots of entries.

You'll soon remember why you ordered it when you get behind the wheel...

My frustration is when POIs have the same 20 or 30 starting letters (eg a Hotel Chain) which you cannot differentiate on-screen because the display width limit crops the name.

I bet some smartass can tell me how to circumvent this.

Don't get me started on how poor the functionality of the NAV is on my car. It looks great, and finds the satalites great, but function is bad. Great hardware, bad software. My Garmin Streetpilot is light years ahead. I wish I had my $1800 back.

99 out of 100 times I know where I want to go, just not how to get there (such as a particular restaurant). I need the ability to be able to search for a particular POI.

Searching would be useful only if you could read what you found. What's the use of finding:

LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT TERMINA
LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT TERMINA
LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT TERMINA
LONDON HEATHROW AIRPORT TERMINA

and not being able to read the rest of it?

Anyone know how to display the balance of missing characters truncated by the screen width?

Indeed this is frustraiting, cuz you have to scrool down and search for that particular poi, in a list with probably more than 40-50 places.
It should allow us to search alphabetical or distace.
