I made a backup using Nero. It worked fine in my car and also in a friend's Mini. My Nav also got hung up last weekend. Kept asking for me to insert the Nav disc and I kept ejecting and re-inserting (joke concering wife loving that left out due to possibility of offending any sensibilities) but nothing worked. I finally pressed both cd and dvd eject buttons and the i-Drive knob simulaneously. Although I'm not exactly sure if that is the infamous i-Drive reboot combination, that worked like a charm.

About 4 days ago my Navigation system failed. It now shows "please insert navigation DVD" even though it is in there. When you hit the eject button it does not come out either. I remember someone else had this problem a while ago. Is there a way to force it to eject, such as a computer CD drive has that little hole in the front that you stick a paperclip into? Car is going in for service on Wed.

It was me who had this problem about 6 weeks ago. I was on the SW version, probably 12.x that the car was delivered with.

You can Eject the disk if you do it before you start the car after it's gone fully to sleep(over night). Once I-drive has booted you won't get the disk out.

The service tech noted he did a "battery reset"( I assume he discontected the battery for a period) and he upgraded the software. The notes don't specify which remedy fixed the problem. I will try the battery reset if it happens again to me before taking it in.

I also had along list of other software related items too. i.e. DME recall, bluetooh retrofit etc. so I don't know if the software was required to fix the NAV problem.

I have Business NAV, and i get the exact same problem, usually followed by the whole Idrive etc, rebooting itself several times. Sometimes fixing itself, sometimes not.
This is with original Nav disc, i find it funny when BMW say copies can damage the idrive! What BULL****! More like copies can damage BMW pockets!
I had the software upgraded (dont know the version) and things were fine for a while, but now its happened again a copule of times.
BTW I dont have seperate buttons for DVD and cd in BUS NAV, only 21 slot. How do i reboot for this setup?

Ya to my understanding from what I read thats the procedure... CD Eject + DVD Eject + Radio Mute reboots the iDrive
