Had two nails in my left rear rft after Hurricane Katrina (in the flat part NOT the sidewall). Repaired them myself using a kit sold at Wal-Mart and local auto parts stores. No problem. Disclosed the patches fully when I returned my car off lease and was not charged. Honesty and full disclosure are your best bet.

see if the local tire shop can patch it with a patch-plug. It's a two in one patch.
