Hi. This is the right-hand (when looking from behind) cylinder head on my N62 - the one with the air pump on it.
I bought this car as a non-runner. It was ticking over OK, but had the water leak, and a broken auto gearbox.
Does this cylinder head look bad, in that it doesn't appear to be flush? Look just to the left of the ESKA bolt-head in the middle of the picture. I can actually see a little bit of the blue sealant in there.
There was some mayo in the coolant underneath the valley pan.
Obviously I don't know how the car was run with/without coolant. It's clear from the picture that some brainiac tried to block the weep hole

I don't suppose anybody would take a picture of a known-good engine would they?

I'm sure its sitting flush, but because you can see coolant around the seal of the head it might have a bad head gasket. Try a compression test. And/or check the coolant for oil.
