N62 Belt Tensioner - Noise?

If you are going to change the belts, also change out the tensioner and idler pulley. You can get these in a kit from Conti-tech. The parts are the same as you get from BMW, just without the BMW logo. Just did this on my two BMWs a couple weeks ago.

I need to do just the belts for now because I have a roadtrip coming up on Saturday and will not be able to source all the parts in time. The belts I can get locally however.
I'll order the tensioner and idler pulley after the roadtrip.

Search the forum for Healthservices AC belt tool. There is no tensioner for the AC belt, so you will need help putting it on. BMW makes a tool, but it's not worth the cost ($60+ I believe or $40 for a knockoff on eBay).

Watch the AC compressor pulley/drive belt when the car is at idle and you hear the 'rattle'. If the pulley appears to waver in/out axially and the belt is vibrating, then the pulley bearing is the culprit of the noise. I have this same issue (rattling sound only at idle coming from pass side front bank) and am just living with it as the AC works fine despite the bad pulley bearing. Because it only sounds like this at idle and other maintenance costs are deferring the installation of a new compressor, I will wait until the compressor fails.
