Me too -- I gotta let my wife know about this..She's all over my arse for cars

 

So who wants to take over my lease? Only 35 months remaining? Only 300 miles!

 

That's what I wanted to hear from another Angeleno. I used to have to drive the 10 from SM to downtown after 5 pm. With a stick. Never really bothered me either.

And now, I work from home in Palisades and only venture out onto the PCH when there's no traffic. I'm no longer having to be in constantly heavy traffic.

I'm set up to test drive a 550i with SAT and sport paddles tomorrow morning. So, we'll see what happens.

But if the choice between SAT and MT is only about traffic flow and weak left leg calf and thigh muscles, then it seems to be me to be a compromise. Sure, one can shift faster with the SAT, but I'm not racing at stoplights.

I like visceral style driving. Maybe I should look for a 1967 330 GT or something instead .....

Maybe a 550i is the wrong car. Seriously, now I'm thinking it might be too heavy a car anyway (?)

I think you've got a lot more to sort through than just SAT or MT...

That goes for me, too, but it extends far beyond cars!

 

I think he was referring to the visceral feel of the vibrations from the engine and transmission through the shifter. You don't get that with slushies and SMGs (<--still not as fun or engaging as the real thing.)

Okay, today I test drove the car with SAT. A Carbon Black one with everything, etc.. And right afterwards, the only MT they still have on the lot; the one I drove earlier.

Well.... uh, it's an auto. It's a really good auto. But, eh, it's still an auto. I dunno, I just like the idea of sticking it in the gear I want and not having to decide if I want to drive in auto, sport auto, manual sport manual, auto sport manual, etc.. My little pea brain gets way too confused for those sorta choices.

Don't get me wrong it's a great auto or auto manual or auto sport manual or sport auto or.... it is pretty impressive. But different strokes for different folks even if the strokes are on the steering wheel.

I just don't sit in commuter's traffic chewing on a bagel dribbling my latte on my chin while listening to the world is coming to an end newscasts anymore. Even if I did, I'd probably still drive a MT. Which was why my latte was always on my chin.

After trying the SAT, I took the MT out again and liked it. A lot.

So, I think that settles it. And maybe I don't really need that temperamental 1967 Italian job after all. I might be happy with this thing. But of course there are those new MY09 997s coming to the dealer's lots soon. Dr. Lev, what yo Momma look like? You could be right....

 

My momma look like yo momma! Glad to hear someone else out there likes the 6-sp. I am still getting used to it.
