My trunk opened a few times as well on it's own. I am certain that at least two of the times I did not hit the button as my keys were sitting on my desk. Thankfully, the few times that it happened to me, it did not rain or snow. An odd feeling to walk out to the parking lot and see your trunk open though....

This happened to me with a gallon of water in the trunk. I dried out the TPM module but that did not work. I bought another module on ebay for $75 and that did not work either...kept getting TPM malfunction. Took it to the dealership and $500 later they replaced the TPM module, moved it to another location and it is working fine. Having the TPM module under the spare tire is a very bad design.

There have been too many instances of this happening due to poor seals in the trunk area. I am wondering if it would be a good idea to place a large piece of plastic (such as those plastic bags that come from dry cleaners or a large garbage bag) over the wheel well area and then close the wheel well compartment door over it to seal off the wheel well area to any water that might enter the trunk. Would there by any downsides to this idea? Wouldn't this prevent water from entering the wheel well area? Good idea or bad idea?

So far everything seems to be working just fine, jsut the "Head Unit Not Programmed Correctley" Message shows up now, but none of the other crazy "Brake system failure" "wiper Failure" "cruise control Failure" "electrical System Failure" messages coming on anymore since i cleaned and dried the trunk.

THANK YOU BRABUS, you seriousley saved my BMW, i had no idea to look under the Sparetire for water and even though i drove the car for 20miles and a few hours with all that water in it, YOU SAVED ME and i guess i was able to "SO FAR" avert a huge problem!

Now does anyone know whats up with the Head Unit not programmed correctley message?

i think it'd be easier to just drill a hole in the bottom as a drain.

Except that often times a hole like that would end up drawing water in due to the suction created as the car is moving...

In other words, without some sort of valve, I think this would cause more problems than it solves.

I'd pick up a container of Damp rid from home depot and put that in your closed trunk. The stuff is excellent. I once put in inside a sealed rubbermade with my soaked Macbook Pro and it sucked all of the water out within a day. For $10 you have nothing to lose
