Surprised to see that they decide to repair it. I wonder if the labor rate is a lot lower where you are, here it's $130 USD per hour after taxes. And with that kind of damage, they would have just considered it a total lost and written you a cheque.

Everything CAN be repaired, BUT:

THIS is a total loss!

If this gets repaired, you really don't want to be in it when something goes wrong and you have an accident! Trust me!

It is ILLEGAL to repair this kind of damage in Germany.

HOLY CRAP!

I echo the sentiments of most here and hope that you did receive a new shell. Otherwise, you must be happy to get your car back

Yes, it is a completly new body shell. There was no other way of going about it. Once BMW claimed it was repairable, insurance would never allow to claim a total loss. They took a month and a half to get her back to normal!

Here in India labour is very cheap, so that wasn't that big a hit.

Ah, OK. Yep, that makes sense. A complete new body shell is OK, that would work over here in Germany too. But as you said, labour is cheap in India. In Germany that would be a total loss because changing the body would be too expensive, too much labour.

So, do you have a new VIN number now, on car's body?

I don't think so. Those shells are only available on request, not as a regular part. So, they probably put the same VIN in this shell...

As Iceman quoted, the body shells are available on request.
The VIN remains unchanged.
