Ah yes... design by telepathy - I remember.
Did it only crash once? I thought 1973 and 1977. Concorde of course managed a scheduled flight crash too and never recovered commercially either. Another coincidence...
CCCP removed the TU 144 from passenger service and put it on the scheduled mail-run between Moscow and Alma Ata.

it crashed at the air fair in paris , just when the whole aviation industry was considering to bin the concorde and, yes believe it or not, order the Concordski. It smells like sabotage to this day
Actually if you were designing Mach 2 airliners in the 1960s that would have been the obvious shape to go for. The 2 aircraft had significant differences though - the leading edge of the wings in the Tu 144 were two straight lines whereas the Concorde was curved. Also the engine nacelles on the Tu 144 were further inboard then on the Concorde.
I always loved the story about the Soviets using a supersonic jetliner to shift domestic mail... Just that in itself is proof that the system was always doomed for failure.

Everyone made fun of the bangle design BMWs. Now, so many car companys are trying to copy the design, Lexus, Mercedes, Acura..etc...
Problem is there designs are not original like bangles were. So they all look botched compared to the original bangle designs. Its amazing how the E60 gets more and more enthusiasts as time goes buy, usually its the other way around.
Great forward thinking MR BANGLE...THANK YOU ...

I love the Bangle design as well. The E60 will look unique and attractive well into the future. I just hope BMW remains leading edge in its designs and some of the corporate nervousness about the Bangle cars doesn't result in bland styling. Lets hope the F10 arrives with distinction, inside and out.

1. its weird looking from too many angles - the fronts too narrow for the 'look' and the slide slashes low on the door are just wrong.
2. Its way overpriced for a hatchback - just a bit more buys a 3 series (like 15% more?)
but then everyones different and see different things
cheers
steve
ps - looks good in black from that angle

BMW styling was getting stale before the Bangle designs were introduced. Most of the Bangle design elements were pretty good, and are now seen elsewhere as well.
On the downside, the execution of the designs was weak in the first iteration. The tacked on look of the bustle trunk has now been improved after the 7 series refresh, leaving only the E60 with this awkward styling detail. That will be fixed with the 5 series refresh.
There are still some bad things about the real world application of the Bangle designs. I still cringe when I see that ugly sheet metal gap across the front of the hood--the waterfall hood which dropped seamlessly to the bumper was much nicer in the E39 and E46. There really wasn't any reason that that couldn't have been continued; apparently BMW preferrred the cheaper production aspects of the flat, square hood.
So all in all, I think BMW and Bangle deserve an "A" for effort, but a "C" for execution with their new designs. Some of the copycats have actually out Bangled Bangle--they've done a nicer job integrating their new designs. But the BMW still drives better (when it's not experiencing an electronic glitch!)
