I drove both, and the driving enjoyment of the 545 is way above. Of course it was also an auto 530 - so that may have added something. Also, I am getting about 4 or 5 MPG over the manufacturer statement. I am quite sure this is all because I am still in my 1,200 mile break in perod - so I am being extra gentle.
The real MPG hit is likely when you drive the 545 like the beast that it is.

Good choice of color 
I test drove both 530i and 545i and chose the latter because of the available sport package. I've been driving v6 and the v8 is such an awesome beast. That's why I need a V1 so bad, not to race with other drivers but to enjoy the driving experience BMW offers.
