Thumbs down

Hello everyone my ECU was stolen from my BMW 545i and I don't know what to do. I was installing a K&N filter on my 545i in my garage, I dont take the car to work or anything so it was a nice day to work on it. I did not finish though, since I started late and the sun started to go down I did not put everything back together just left it like it was. I left the hood close but not lock becuase the air filter was blocking it so i just put the hood down and left it like that. i closed my garage and today when i went to install the K&N filter again everything was as I left it. So I install it and wanted to see how it felt, i try to turn on the car but i got all this lights on my car I was like what the F*** is going on I inspect the air filter to see if I connected everything back together, it was fine I was looking around the car around the engine, and then I notice the black box from the cabon filter was loose so I open it and the black plstic mold that covers the electronics was loose, I just lifted up and the wires were all moved around and BAM the ecu was gone they did not take anything else just the ECU they did not close everything back together just snap everything making it seem like it was all tight. They broke in through my garage door, dont know how but they did it. man am i pee off

So now I am with out an ECU, I already filed a Police Report I have not talk to my insurance since they are close. But what can I do??
Where can i buy one or find one?
Around how much they range for?
Does my car still work without it? I have not driven it becuase I dont want to mess up nothing.
Please someone help? I need all the information you guys can help me with. Thank you

You have got a big problem. ECU's are coded to the car I beleive so I don't what use it is someone else but I don't think you can just buy one.

I think you need profesional/dealer help.

When people have their ECU's modified they have to send them to tuner or have the tuner come to them. They are unique to the car...

Total bummer

Sorry to hear! I hope everything works out for you. I would talk to your dealer and see what they need to do. If they need you to purchase a brand new ECU let me know...I'll try to hook it up at your local dealer.

Don't worry too much, the ECU should be replaceable by the dealer, however, it does cost an arm and a leg so be prepared. Your comprehensive insurance should cover this, I think.
