It tells us what we know. RFT's are stiffer.
On track cars it's better to have softer tires, it's easier to maintain control when drifting for example...
Hmmm, I thought that BMW were stating that lap-times were actually quicker with runflats?

Hey all,

I just took delivery this week of my new 550i M-sport (lovin' it), and I've got the style 172M 19" rims with Continental ContiSportContact 2 (275/30 rears, 245/35 fronts).
My dealer/salesperson insists that they're runflats, although I can find no indication of that on the tire sidewall - also, there's a doughnut spare in the trunk, which I understood didn't come if you had runflats.
I checked the Conti website, and they make no mention one way or another about runflats.

Can anyone clear this issue for me?
Do you deal with Budd's ???

I went through this 2 weeks ago....after getting a flat !!!

They were convinced I had RFT......but they're not!!

After some back and forth with the service department they realized that the ContiSportContact 2 on the 172m (I have the same) are NOT RFT !!!!

By the way....nice choice of wheels !!!

Thanks all... looks like my suspicions are confirmed that they are in fact NOT Runflats.
Hey NWilliams, I dealt with Mississauga BMW, who still insist that they're RFTs. I'm actually glad that they're not, and not because I'll be racing, but I'm fearful of the $800 nail puncture...

I really recommend the wheel insurance coverage that BMW offers.....for $400 it covers all your wheels (summer+winter) for flats, bent rims etc.....

In the second month of ownership I got a nail puncture in my Conti SportContact2 that was too close to the sidewall for repair....the cost of a new tire was ridiculous.....glad I had the coverage....they simply replaced the tire....and I'm covered 'till the end of my lease!
