I drove the car to a friend house last night. When I was ready to leave, I tried to start my car and it would not start. We tried to jump start the car and all the dash lights came on, the head lights were blinking and it would only crank but the actually car engine didn't start. About a week ago I put in a brand new battery, so i don't think thats the problem..
Any idea of what the problem could be?
Thank you for your help!

Next thing to check would be your alternator. Did any warning lights appear?

Honestly didn't notice any warning lights.. just that the lights kept blinking when attempting to start the car. When i tried to jump it the jumper wires got very hot!

When jumper wires get hot it means a lot of current is going thru them. This also seems to indicate that your battery is very low charge for whatever reason. hook the jumpers up and let the battery charge for 20 mins. then try to start. Do not attempt to start the car with a weak battery you can damage the starter if you have not already.

if lights are blinking/dimming when attempting to start, it means there isn't enough charge in the battery.
+1 on healthservices advice, connect jump leads, start other car, and let it sit there for a while before attempting to start your car.

i had similar problem with my previous 06 bmw 3 series (same engine though).it wouldn't start after replacing battery
i didn't have diagnostic tool then and had to call some guy who run the test and said that problem was cas (car access system) computer.
i ended up replacing it at the dealer's - $300 for the computer and couple hours of labor because it comes clean and they actually have to write
software on it. so in any case i'd run the test and see what the error codes are

I checked the battery and realized that the ground cable got loose and it wasn't grounded properly. I moved it and thighed it up and the car started up just fine.
Thank you everyone for your help and advices! I really appreciate it!!
