ow! Sorry to see that, but count yourself lucky that you have Silverstone. In a recent survey, 9 out of 10 foxes said they prefered the taste of Indigo Blue... you could have lost the entire front end!

There is a surcharge if I want to keep the old one and the bodyshop is trying to find out what that surcharge is. This seems strange to me, it's not like I'm exchanging/partex'ing my bumper, they surely can't have any use for it or think about repairing it and reusing it otherwise why can't my bodyshop repair it. There was a mention too that BMW may not even allow me to keep it for a surcharge with it being from an M-car, perhaps they don't want me selling it on ebay to cover the costs of my insurance excess  or keep the number of look-a-likes down?
have you tryed other shops?
In HK they shop always ask you if you want the old parts and there is not surcharge.

I think we will recognise the bumper when it goes on Ebay...
I agree that it should be yours.
I'm with MaE60D in the diagnosis - RATS!
Having had quite a few prblems with them (not car related), looks like rat fangs. They gnaw to keep their teeth sharp and short. They will eat plasterboard (drywall), my fridge seal, rubber, foam, ptfe tape...
An M5 seems quite a delicacy.
5kg tubs of industrial rat poison (?20 each) around the car highly recommended...

so THOse WEird Wolfs exist? : , but here in the U.S., we can keep our old parts, they don't charge you, i remember, i had a rear ended accident with another car, the bumper was slightly pinched in , can be repaired, so they let me keep it and i got a new one the insurance paid for it. NOthing about surcharges.

Most extras bar climate comfort glass, there was even a detachable towbar in the boot weighing me down...what would anyone dream of towing with an M5, except maybe a fellow M5 owner with the Red Cog of Death!?

So i'm not sure whether to bother keeping it for my track days/ebay...it'd be around ?150 by the time I've paid the surcharge+VAT plus ebay fees, delivery costs etc. But if anybody is seriously interested let me know. It's going to the bodyshop next monday (16th July)

Well after phone calls to several BMW bodyshops they are all in agreement that there is a surcharge to keep the old part. BMW want them back they say for recycling/correct disposal purposes... ...and it's not just for the M-cars either, seems the same rule applies for all the range. I asked them to put the surcharge on the insurers bill since I'm already paying a ?500 excess but they can't, insurance companies are now wise to that.

You know why this happened don't you? It's because the UK has outlawed the fox hunt. Now they are running all over the countryside eating German cars!
