From my expirience BMW alarms are very sensitive, if I leave my car with my two dogs in it the alarm goes of within a few minutes. Here in my part of the world the car does not unarm when unlocking with the key, this setting is to prefer. I recommend all US drivers to make your dealer change this setting.

It happened to me with my 03' X5 2 times in Queens. What I found out is this... they break into your car looking for you manual and obviously take whatever else is valuable in the car. They then use the manual to get the key codes and produce a replica... they then come to your house and walk into your car as if its there with a key and take it without a trace. Thats some slick shit if you ask me. And how the hell does BMW make such crappy locks? THey should do something about that.

Why don't you just take a blowtorch and weld the lock closed?
You don't need a key to open the car, just use the remote.
