Hey guys I read on the e61 discussion that everyone in the UK gets roughly 22-25 MPG 40-45 on a good run on the autobahn. Just wondering what is the averages for people in the states. I get 17 combined high way and city driving but if i go all highway probably 23 or so. but my mpg always says 20 but when i do the cals. per fill up i get 17. just wondering! report in on how accurate BMW is with there MPG

I have a 2005 545 with SMG tranny. The car reads 18+ mpg in combined city and highway, but I have been consistently getting 17mpg with combined city and highway driving. Not bad for an eight cylinder. The way they calculate is not accurate at all. Zero out your average speed and go for a drive and see what it does...it trends down in front of you bc the speed is averaged even while you are at red lights.

Don't forget your mpg is based on a smaller size gallon in the states. Yours is 4l per gallon where we use 4.5l per gallon this side of the pond.

It's 4.54l to 3.78l, so it's pretty close to 1.2 times bigger. So you have to divide UK mpg by 1.2 to get US equiv.

Was your car on a flat bed? Wow! That's pretty impressive. I managed 31MPG once, going no faster than 65, just to see how high it would go. I did that for about 90 miles. It killed me seeing all those Vettes and Porsches passing me and not be able to do anything about it.....
