That SIB should work. My bld date is 01/2005 and they fought it at first stating that the bld date had to be 03/2005 or newer, but the SIB clearly states that is applies UP TO 09.2005, so you're covered.

Just complain that you have a whole library of mp3 disks and want to play them in the car. Don't mention or acknowledge that you'd like to put in an iPod interface.

What dealership did you end up going too?

I got my mp3 retrofit two weeks ago, but having issues with playing the CD. It keeps skipping the songs without playing?
Any known issues?

Since the subject is up...my car was built in 3/05 545i, I have bluetooth and Sat radio; however, I do not think I have MP3 retrofit. If I take my car to dealer would they do a retofit for me, I am still under original warranty until June '09 so I am trying to get all done prior to expiration...

Please shed some light, I like to know what I am talking about; otherwise, I hear BS stories from my SA. I've learned the hard way..

Thanks a mill!!!
Val, the key with your build date is to have Navigation. Early build cars with Nav got a different computer (CCC) versus non-Nav (M-ASK) cars. The CCC equipped cars can get MP3 working with a software update. Non-Nav (M-ASK) cannot be upgraded. Sorry but your signature doesn't show Nav...

Thanks for clarifying that, I just wanted to know if I had the option. I play any CD in my car and they all work, so I guess I just keep burning them the way I have been doing...once agian thanks.

Sorry for the delay in response... been out of town for a few days...

Anyway, Steve Thomas out in Camarillo ended up actually doing the SIB. Check them out.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out...

You also need them to enable the cd changer to install the ipod interface. From all the info ppl have posted it seems like both are required.

I took my car to the dealer here in Virginia this past weekend regarding MP3 cd functionality and was told that it could not be retrofitted. Mine is a '05 545i with 12/04 build date. Spoke to BMW customer relations and the superviosr told me that the TSB applies to vehicles prduced after March 2005. Is that the case?

Please take a look at the bulletin by clicking at the link few posts up. It clearly states: "E60, E61 (5 Series) with SA 609 CCC-Navigation from SOP to 9/29/05 vehicle production"

I thought it was very clear. SOP=Start of Production means from the very first E60 ever built till 9/29/05. ONLY thing is you have to have CCC-Pro Nav.
