Only works with PRO radio
My dealer (in Finland) told me that MP3 coded CD works also in new cars with Business radio. Could anybody of you confirm this?

Apparently they work for MY 2006 cars with Business Radio. Don't know the difference (radio) for MY 2005 and MY 2006

Thanks AC. My 530xd is 12/05 production so Business Radio should be ok.

Mid-year facelift? Or do you mean mid-model-life? Because a facelift isn't coming soon...

And iPod capability would likely be able to be added to any E60. Siemens VDO already has this working and showed it at IAA. BMW has had the code necessary to make this work for over a year.

All E60s with Pro Radio or Pro Nav now have MP3 capability.

And there's no reason to believe we'd get a backup camera with the facelift...

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I don't think waiting another 2 years would be worth it...

The MP3 player is great, just a shame the nav dvd has to be changed on the bus. nav, and doesnt work in the CDC. Does anyone know the macimium bitrate it will support - all my music is in lossless FLAC at the mo - I have been transcoding it to 192kbps MP3 for compatibility.

Improvements to be made:
1) Play in CDC - may not be possible - on old beemers the link was an ibus lead for control, and an audio feed
2) Track name to display in the status bar, instead of MP3.
3) More than 255 mp3s. This would be great (even better than an ipod maybe) if a DVD could be crammed full of music.
I don't think this would be better than an iPod at all. BMW already has the necessary code to integrate the iPod fully into iDrive for display and control. Once they do, you could have the iPod inside of your glovebox, and do all display and control on up to 60GB of music without having to replace your nav DVD.

Now, if BMW never gives us iPod support, I agree: a DVD full of music would be great. But even that makes an assumption: that BMW will remove the 239 file limit. But I'd sooner see full iPod integration. And given the numerous competitors that now offer full integration, I'd expect, or at least hope, that BMW will do something about this.

I also have mp3 starting today. Can someone remind me how do I find out which software do I have?

Are DVD-RW or DVD+RW working? Can I fill one up and try how it works?
What are the limitation? Does it work with variable bitrate?

Yes, DVD+RW is compatible for sure, with multisession (add on tracks or replacement tracks).
It work at any bitrate (size or type).
The only problem is the 239 tracks cumulative limit.

I assume we're talking about tracks on the whole DVD not in a folder, correct?

This is bad? Why not 255?
