Hi, i am Antonio, from Madrid (spain)
I have a 530d steptronic 2004 with fap, without navi and cd charger.

Can i play mp3 in front charger?
how?

You should be able to play them after software update.

You can't use the changer for MP3 playback, only the single-disc slot.

If you don't already have that function, the dealer needs to update the software, you can't do it yourself without the proper equipment, etc.

to update what i need it? or i must go to bmw?

i also have a 330 e46 and i update it with CDs on navi system, but in e60 i don?t know how to do this.

you have to go to the dealer where they will plug your car with the BMW computer software called PROGMAN which will update your cars software and install the necessary item to activate MP3 for your single CD slot

when you get a software update, do bmw update everything todo with software or, just the softwear requested a that time?

If your car is under warranty, you MAY be able to emulate a fault that would necessitate a software update - do a search on the forum as many people have done it.

Actually i just got this done for free. See attachment below. Also, I can play MP3 CDs in my 6 disc changer in the glove box.
