My car just updated to the latest CIP version and I just tried an MP3 CD using the instructions above. No luck. IDrive displayed "Medium cannot be read".
I did ask the dealer to activate MP3 support when my software was upgraded and they did say that my car did not have the capability (it was built too early).
I currently have a PuMA case open for my TCU since the software update failed. I'm hoping this will be fixed as well when they change my TCU.

If the car has MP3 player enabled, it can it reads any MP3 disc. However, the most important thing is it must be ripped at constant bit rate or it won't play if done with variable bit rate. If VBR, it just shows the song name and skip to the next one.

On a side note, how do i get the name of the song on the i-drive screen when playing a regular music cd? All I could see is the track number on a dial.

A "regular music" CD needs to have "CD Text" added for it to display on the CID. All you have to do is burn a copy with Nero and tell Nero to add the CD text. One other thing, the CD text only displays if you play the disc from the single in-dash slot, not the CD changer...
Thanks, I thought you could get the "CD Text" by playing the original CD. I have a single in-dash slot. I will try it out.
BTW, what is CID stand for?

Try again with the instructions from Lomag and others, your car will surely read MP3, you just burned it incorrectly. If your car doesn't read MP3s, the CD part will just dim out and do nothing, not even say, Medium Cannot Be Read. My dealer confirmed this, beacuse when I brought my car in, that is how they could tell, they said, if its MP3 enabled and doesn't read my disc then it should say Medium Cannot Be Read, if that doesn't show then it needs enabling and its not the disc's fault. Thats what they told me, so I dono as well.

No way. Business radio can't play mp3 because the decoder it's not installed (it's a physical chip on the radio main board). And I confirm the message I see is "Medium cannot be read". (Well... in spanish )

Would you like a picture to prove my point? I have no nav, and I have MP3 enabled on my car. If you need a picture of my MP3 playing on my car, I can show it to you. But trust me, you'll thank me once you get it to work. If it says Medium Cannot Be Read, you have MP3.
Maybe because your vehicle is not EU spec and his is . My vehicle is EU spec and when I put in a MP3 CD it does not do anything, just dims out the CD and moves to CD 1 in the changer
Regarding CD text I tried using new iTunes and include CD text and put it in the front CD slot and no text. Is there a button or option which will say DETAILS to show the name of the tracks? btw i dont have Nav and have HIFI with CD Changer + Single CD Slot

It can all be done in software.
