Can someone be kind enough to send me a sample working MP3 CD that you know it works in a 5 series. I recently had a software update for MP3. I am not able to play any MP3s still. The dealer mentioned he had the MP3 retrofit done during the software update as per the bulletin that is in this forum for cars built between 03/2005 and 09/2005.

The dealer does not have a sample working CD to test it either

The CDs I have definitely works in standard name brand MP3 players as well as the loaner 3 series car I got from BMW. Some CDs, I wrote using the guidelines that others have posted in this forum. Doesnt work in my 530 still.

Please PM me if you can help me with a MP3 CD. Any suggestions to solve my problems ?

I am the same, my car went in for Voice retrofit and MP3 upgrade on Friday.

Gpt a phone call to say that they couldn't do the voice as they needed a code back from Germany and would not get that until Monday and they needed the loan car back next day at midday, but the MP3 would be done by 5pm and would I like to collect it in the morning, I had a new 3 series 330d touring that I hated so said I would collect it at 5pm as I didn't want the 3 any longer than I had to have it!

Anyway got the car back and it doesn't play MP3's! So total waste of a day!!!

Went in today and they brought out a disc and that played in my car, but it was the same cd screen and I am sure I have seen screenshots where is looks different to the regular cd menu, there was no artist name etc. just the 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. etc.

What does the screen look like when you play an MP3 disc that has no track names, only numbers? anyone know?

It all depends on which software and settings were used to burn the CD. In Nero, you can enable ?File name length? under the ISO setting and the song title will show (if it is available in the original, check properties to find out, if not you can create your own title!) when played in the single slot CD player or the DVD player (CD changer does not play MP3 files). You can also use files and folders to create song lists under the artist name, e.g. a file named Beatles that you can highlight on your car?s display and see a list of their songs by pressing the IDrive knob.

I don't mean to get off-topic in this thread but can they retrofit the MP3 player in an early model E60 (born date: Feb 2004) with the latest CIP 21?

I'm also thinking of getting Bluetooth and voice recognition enabled so I may just get the CPT9000 for my Treo 700W.

Guy,
the screen menu looks different. What they brought out, was probably just a burnt CD with music files.
MP3 cd' menues have much more depth (and info)

Chennai,

I could offer you a home burnt MP3 CD with Rammstein and Oomph (similar to Rammstein) that certainly plays in my CD drive. Could take a few days to get to you, though.

If nobody comes up more local to you, let me know.

Mike_E,

yes the MP3 function can be retro activated with latest software, also on an earlier model. (mine is 10/2004)
Bluetooth and VR are a different story, as you need the correct hardware for it, too, or it gets expensive.

Thanks for the offer to send me the CDs. I burnt some ISO images sent by Rudy. Though the CD itself works in other MP3 players, it does not work still in my car. Anyway, I made another trip to the dealer armed with these CDs and retrofit bulletin for NAV cars built between 03/05 and 09/05. They looked into the bulletin. It seems like they have not done their work properly and have scheduled another appointment tomorrow. I am hoping that I will be able to play MP3s after tomorrows visit.

It's not only loading the latest software. They will either need to tick a box for the MP3 function on a full download, or if existing software is new enough, there is a 20-30 minute side option to add it.

Good luck
