I guess I'm not really that surprised, I mean, if they could have done it earlier they would have. There obviously were some problems during the get-go. Damn VDO and their crappy processors.

Our latest pricelists highlight the fact that MP3 will be available for October built cars, and sales people are even pushing the fact that they will have it.
So they better have it in October or our dealers are going to have problems

The bulletin that states MP3 is available in Oct builds is the exact reason why I ordered a 06 530i for ED pickup. Will bring this up today with my SA as it looks like I will have to get something in writing regarding this before I sign anything.

Further, the production week of my car is Week 40, which is the first week of October, with production scheduled to finish Oct 5. However, production started Sept 22. In BMW's production parlance, is that still an October build?

[/quote]Thats a good question as my car finished the "scheduled for production" phase on Sept 20 although I did state at the time of ordering that my car needed to be a Oct build specifically for the MP3 capability.
As for the bulletin, Its the Product Planning&Strategy BMW Dealer Bulletin "MY 2006 5 Series September Update".

Hey Iceman, how is it with Business Nav and mp3?
Radio Pro to mention
Radio Pro to mention

My car has Business Nav and Professional Radio, and after updating the software to version 19 on last service, my car started to play MP3's. I guess the problem is only with the Navigation Pro, not with the business navi.

Well, I called BMWNA, and they claimed that the information that cars WITH Navigation in the US should start getting MP3 playback capability as of October production. (I also confirmed that the production month is determined by the car's production end date.)
In any event, my car is the first week of October production, so whenever it gets here, I'll definitely be testing this!

My Ride: Nothing to boast about!
Is BMW using 8-bit or 4-bit controllers? MP3 doesn't take much mips to decode. NAV maybe.
I also have a feeling they use polling in the system. How can the car miss the door unlocking and not setting the driver's seat to the programmed setting, for example?
