If you are hooking up the iPhone thru plain aux, it will NOT show any folders and names, since it's just an audio connection. You will need an iPod integration, which I believe runs $400. It's cheaper to have the programming done to play mp3 CDs

just got off the phone with bmw san francisco... They said my cars prouduction 11/03 its not able to update the software and be able to play mp3 unless we swap out the whole system... And with the aux input total would cost $304 .. Does this sound right on both parts?

They are wrong about the software. The first version of the service bulletin I posted (from January 2006) only allowed the software to be updated for cars produced between 3/2005 and 9/29/2005. A later version of the bulletin (from March 2006) allowed the software to be updated from start of production (SOP) to 9/29/2005. The latest version (posted above) from July 2009, still includes from SOP to 9/29/2005 but outlines a different procedure on how to fix the problem.

Besides the point, a dealer who could swap out the system for $304 let alone add the AUX port on top of that must be talking out of their back side ;
Like Rudy said, you'd be better off at some other dealer.

Reprogramming the system by following the bulletin may be less money...

I don't think the $304 includes swapping out the system, I think it only includes installation of the AUX port in the glovebox.
