You could be right there! Then again they could make it available for the changer only.
No, a lot of us without the changer would feel discriminated

The technical dept of the garage confirms that MP3 is available in the cd player but not sure in the CD changer.

Did that means that our CD player can read MP3 format already but the I-Drive software doesn't know how to decode it ??

Or our CD player cannot read MP3 format but the I-Drive software is able to decode it ??

For the first case, we need software update.

For the latter case, can we get a BMW CD player from Europe and install it in our E60 ??

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

My Ride: 525i, Orient Blue, bought used with 22000 miles. Grey lether, sport package, BMW Assist, Cold Weather package. Xenons. NOT premium for some reason, I do like the metal finish vs. the wood, but do miss the garage opener.
Thumbs up

Does anyone know if the software update to play MP3's will work for all build dates? I have a 11/03 build non-nav 525i. Seems like the early build are left out of some stuff (bluetooth!)

How are you guys finding out about what's in the future versions anyway? Asking the dealer?

Thanks in advance for the info!

Well, BMW advertised MP3 ability. So if the hardware needs to be changed, they have to do it...

Did they advertise that for the 2004 model? I haven't seen that.

Apologies for my no-reply, I had a long stroll in the exhibit halls of the car show. BMW stand was not very impressive as Merc.

Ching-Ho-Cheng, I'm sure your garage will already have that new software... I doubt if BMW will allow us self-help with software update... well I maybe speaking for myself and my garage. But hey dont forget to share to this forum what you find out

Wrlominick, I haven't the car yet so my infos are as good as what the dealers say. I'll test drive the new 530i and 330 i in a week or two and I wont forget to bring my burned MP3 music selection. In the meantime, I'm sure the others will chime in to answer your questions.

This forum is full of good information, I've learned a lot in such a short time that I can outspeak the sales people at the show... unfortunately when a beautiful blonde hostess sits beside me in the car to show me how the Nav works I start to stutter or rattle.

I'm sure that player can read MP3, after all it's same zero/one data. Why Windows CE inside our cars can not decode it, is THE question IMO! But we have read all those problems with software in (important to BMW) other issues. MP3 has just been there with very low priority. Maybe if these major issues has now been solved and resolved we start to get more features out from iDrive?
