I have the tiny metal valve caps that come with the car. It's always tight, I'm surpris people have problems with the cap.
Nothing scientific, but I never lost one of the small metal caps on my 545 but have already lost one of the big plastic ones on my 550. I wonder if the plastic degrades or expands/contracts more than the metal ones, allowing them to loosen and fall off...

Has anyone else had a problem with "losing" tire valve caps?

I have had my 2008 550 almost 5 months and for the second time, the tire valve cap on the front right tire is missing. After the first time, I just thought that some kid liked the different type of cap and just took it. Now, I am missing the one from the same tire. It seems that if someone was taking it, they would take more than just one.

Is it possible that the unique design of these caps (plastic with the wider diameter top) has a tendency to unscrew itself and fall off?

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen.
There is an easy solution.........Get a Trunk Monkey!!! Problem solved!!

Do you have a part number? My dealer always asks for this.

Thanks!
Get the dice design valve cap.

In Ireland it is becoming a problem. The kids have moved on from bonnet badges (not a bad thing) to the valve covers. They make tiny holes, put string through them and are wearing them as necklaces in school.
Of course, if you've got fancy bmw or porsche or MB caps then you'll lose all 4 within a few hours of putting them on.
Best thing to do is to buy crap ones and put them on. They are more for function rather than show, and the last thing I want is kids taking off dust caps and then thinking '"shure while I'm hear I might as well take the badge too".

Lost one a while back and bought four just to cover future losses. Don't recall the exact price but I want to say it was something like $1.50 (including tax) for all four caps...

For the full stems, that I don't know.

I just bought some from the dealer for $15, but they're the nice ones with the BMW symbol. Hopefully mine don't get stolen also....
