Default Misfire/Sputter at lights

Hi all,

I have an 08 528xi with 1325XX miles. It has been well cared for an very few problems...until recently.

A few weeks ago, the CEL came on briefly and blew a U0100 - Lost Comm with ECM/PCM. That went away and things were fine since, until yesterday.

When I stop at lights, especially after the car is warm, I hear a squeal/whistle from the front of the car, and then the revs start to dip and the car starts to shake. If I let off the brake and let the car roll forward, it goes away. If I blip the throttle, things go back to normal. There are no warning lights and no codes. I am overdue for brake fluid, but that really doesnt seem like it would be related.

A friend suggested a vacuum leak when I told him what was going on. I am more worried that it is a transmission issue becuase it seems to just happen when the car is in drive and stopped, and goes away when I let it roll.

If anyone has any insights or experience with a similar issue, please let me know. I am at the point now where I am considering dumping this car if it is going to be very expensive to keep running, and a trans failure would certainly put me over that edge.

Thanks again

Matt

Have you opened the hood and look for any visual signs of anything abnormal?

When was the last time drive belt was changed? Belt could be slipping (either because the belt is worn or belt tensioner is going bad).

I looked for any loose hoses or anything showing any sign of dry rot. Didnt see anything abnormal.

The main accessory belt and the belt tensioner were both changed about 5000 miles ago, along with doing a coolant flush, thrust rods, and a diff flush.

Sounds like the CCV Valve may need replacing. I know I had similar symptoms on my 545i. I know it is pretty common on the N62 but guess it could be for any motor for that matter. I get the SES Light, Increased Emissions and a rough idle when stopped when I replaced mine.
