Yes, it seems to occur during an SMG up- or down-shift...
Lately, my HUD isn't blinking but the audio clearly drops out for a second and it's not related to the acquisition of the satellite signal.

That would be reported by me... the center LED between the speedo and tach... mine blinks out once in a while...
Yeah, mine is the same as Eric's. The center LCD turns off and back on once in a long while (very rare).

I take it this occurs at shift? I could not tell from sound track.
At least u have something to take to dealer. Maybe they can get someone working on it in lab at BMW

I get the blinking screen between the speedo & tach also.
Never thought it was related (but could be).
Doesn't happen in connection with the dropped sound.
I did manage to get the sound to drop out (same as when shifting) by changing the volume (up) from the steering wheel control today.
(and no, the car didn't shift when I pushed the volume button )

I'm pretty sure that "feature" will be introduced in some future software version as they attempt to solve this current bug...

Now it gets real interesting.
Happened twice last night. Car was "cold".
This time there was NO shift involved.
I was cruising in 4th and gave it full throttle.
As soon as the pedal hit the floor the music dropped-out for 2 seconds.
It happened again a minute or two later - again without a shift.

Sounds like its happenning more frequent. Someone go give the battery a reading... whats the voltage on it? Battery getting weaker?

Well.... I'm sure it hit the switch given that it was full throttle - but "kickdown" didn't occur. It stayed in the same gear.
Also, it doesn't explain why it happened the other time.
I'm leaving work in a few minutes. Car's been sitting for about 4 hours. I'll report if there is anything of note on my ride home.

I figured there wasn't an actual kickdown but the fact that the switch closed might still be a link to helping to troubleshoot the electrical glitch -- which is why I was wondering about it in the first place...
