Had it happen to me once again this AM.
This time I had the radio on (FM).
Also, shift point was around to 3K to 3.5K (upshift).

 

This has never happened to my 545i SMG (yet). Here are the details:

Production date: 9/2004
Original CIP: 15.x
Current CIP: 19.02
Mileage: 18,500
SMG Mode: Always in Sport
Shifting Method: Always Manual, 95% Shift Knob, 5% Paddles.
Audio Source: Sirius, AM, CD, CD Changer.
Heated Seats/Steering: On most of the time in winter.

Btw., I haven't had this in 4 days now......

 

Some general thoughts possible explainations on all your observations as they apply only to the items as follows:

1) Blanking of small LCD between speedo and Tach: I can replicate that by forcing a change in CC speed or by causing a change to a function that would cause a driver alert message.

Examples : I am cruising alomg under CC at any speed, I have normal outside temp, date, CC speed displayed in the proper zones in displays. If I then adjust CC up or down by pushing/pulling stalk, the displays will blink off and then back on with new information. Same thing if I force an alert such as DTC off or DSC off, my display will blank and then return with new message/ICON and the other normal information. Make sure in your observations that it is not one of these aspects that is causing the "blinking" LCD.

2) SIRIUS audio disappears for an instant or two (could be several seconds).

Possible Explaination: I believe this is not specific problem to your system/vehicle. Can be that original source caused it (source feed, up link feed, or satellite transponder) or u had a blockage between your antenna and signal source of minimal duration, but not enough to cause teh "acquiring signal" alert to come on. There is a small buffer that permits a little bit of continueing audio even if you did below the minimal threshold.

3) All Audio drops or some specific (FM or AM, etc) combo drops .

None of these possible explainations is intended to explain the HUD or all dash lights blinking some of you have observed. I was mearly attempting to try to seperate out some of the other symptoms from that observation.

 

The small LCD between speedo and tach does not go out in may case only the HUD and the sound.

 

Yea, that was reported by someone else and I did not take the time to make attribution to each of the reported symptoms - sorry - just too many interruptions at WORK

I take it this occurs at shift? I could not tell from sound track.

At least u have something to take to dealer. Maybe they can get someone working on it in lab at BMW
