I found out the hard way how good the mini-spare tire is. I had my right rear Michelin PS2 blow out on the interstate yesterday. I quickly changed it for the mini. Before putting it on I put it next to the 18" wheel-tire and it has the same diameter. I was concerned about drivability and handling but under 60-65mph speeds and gentle acceleration you cannot tell the difference. Very neutral to drive.

That was the good part, the bad part was the only way I could get 275/35 - 18" tires the same day was from the dealer. Curly, Larry, and Moe took 3 hours to mount the two rears (bought two to have them match, they are Dunlop SP 8080), and then they mounted one of the unidirectional tires backwards, which took the stooges another hour to fix.

Anyone have experience with the Dunlop SP8080. Only 1 day but they seem to handle well, but break loose easier than the Michelins

I thought that the 545 with the sport package came with run-flats and no spare.
What am I missing??

You're missing the mini spare that mine came with. I think all US Sports with run flats have the mini spare. Shucks, BMW Assist was absolutely positive that I had a full size spare. That's just part of what they don't know about their cars.

My '01 540 has a full size spare and a tiny trunk. That may explain BMW assist's confusion, although they should know. Now I know how BMW picked up the addtional trunk space in the 545, which is about 3 or 4 cubic feet larger than the E39's

Did you replace the run-flat tires, or did your car come with conventional tires? I thought all 545 sport packages came with run-flats.
