Saw the above link from BMWNAVDVD.COM, and am wondering if it is the same original 2012 NAV DVD being sold at an on-line BMW dealer site for $199?
I bought an updated disc on ebay for something like $75-90. It was the 2009.1 update, and was a factory disc. I've been using for months with no problems. Cars made well-past 2005 used the same navigation engine/CCC. It's not a big deal, other than the MAJOR annoyance at having to find a new independent tech who won't steal your s***!

This thread might be going to that point where the Moderators lock it.

Please pay closer attention to S/W Licensing Laws and Forum.rules.

I asked that question on this very same forum years ago, and everybody said "NO"; I tried burning a copy of the NAV DVD myself without success.

To address software piracy laws/rules, I wanted to copy the NAV DVD to avoid damage to the original DVD, but now I see it must be copied to avoid future theft by mechanics and parking lot attendants, especially as the NAV DVD's aren't made or not going to be made for older BMW e60's.

  • You wrote: "I tried burning a copy of the NAV DVD myself without success."
    • Commercially produced DVDs are often copy-protected.
    • The newer BMW Nav DVDs are double layer and (may) require special burners and discs to produce legally-permissible copies.
  • You wrote "To address software piracy laws/rules, I wanted to copy the NAV DVD to avoid damage to the original DVD ... "
    • If you were able to (re)produce a copy of a DVD you own that may be permissible if the copy was for your personal use - not for sale or distribution to others.
    • Read the software license to confirm if that is permissible.
I hope this explanation is helpful and that your service center theft issue doesn't happen to you or others in the future. I'm sure you have put them "on notice"!

Not original but it will work fine. They have been discussed several times on E90 forums, where people are more into custom maps, copies etc.
