Happy to hear it's covered by warranty though; your stealer must be more of a decent guy than mine - mine alwas says it's "not really a warranty item, but as a courtesy to me..." - he is a jerk. As a matter of fact, I think I'll look for another one now hehehe

 

I wish this forum made people list their cars. People say things and you are not sure if yours is the same kind of car or not, so your not sure if you should be interested in the subject matter or not. I have a '08 535i 6-speed and have been having noises too....a sort of "gear rattling" when the car is in Nuetral...noise stops when the clutch is pushed in. What kind of car do you have?

 

sorry to tell you this, but this is a classic sign of possibly a bad clutch plate and/or pressure plate. i've seen clutches where one or even both of these cracked. while you're in nuetral your clutch is basically disengaged (these plates are not in contact with each other), any signs of defects you will hear and i believe this is what you are hearing.

now on the flip side, if you hear noises while in any gear, then chances are you have a bad pilot bearing. this is where the tranny spline meets up with the flywheel/crankshaft.

also, if noises are heard only when pressing clutch pedal, and it goes away when you release (take your foot off of pedal) then it's a bad throwout bearing.

i've done several clutches but not sure if ours are the same way. i really don't see how different ours can really be if even that.

i just cant believe something like this happened so soon on your '08!! unless you've been hard (aggressive) on the clutch. have it checked out immediately!! good luck

 

what kind of noise was it making ??? i took my 545i in 3 times , telling them something doesnt sound right ??? but they keep sayin " they dont hear anything "... ???

 

can you tell us more about your noise? example is it doing it when driving at idle? mine was doing some type of a rattling every time that I shutt off the engine.. I made a video of the noise and send it to the S.A.

frm standing outside of the car while my friend's inside holding on to the clutch , it goes away .. but when he lets go it has an ratting noise . .
