There has been a lot of discussion about the SMG transmission and the six speed manual. SMG, manual, and steptronic are all great, but I would only consider SMG or manual.

I would like to know what you think no matter what you drive now. I like sporty driving and haven't decided which to get. I love my current 540i with steptronic, but miss shifting and don't really care much about the convenience of an automatic. Connection with, and control of the drivetrain is more important.

A lot of us have it and love it.

 

In case you haven't looked, the SMG FAQ has extensive information and links to other similar threads. I seem to remember a similar poll too.

Either way, for me, after driving manuals for many, many years, SMG is the only choice now...

Dont get the manual, i hate it. I havn't had a chance to have the CDV removed yet, so ill post after. Also, im having a clutch slipping problem. I think its caused by over heating not 100% works fine when i ride with the shopforman because the car has been sitting on a lift all wekk and cold.

ok, ok, zippers525. i know you really hate manual. you have to double post and make sure we all know about it .

markt540i, smg lets you drive both manual and auto. and i've only heard good things about smg. but before you make your final decision, test drive both. good luck .

 

Don't buy the SMG because it has an auto mode. If you think you'll want to use the auto mode often, you'll be disappointed...

 

rudy is right. but at least it'll let you use auto if you feel lazy that day .
