My Ride: 2004 530i Sports Pkg Titanium Silver on Black SMG HUD

My car went in for a new cd deck, the old one stoped accepting cd's and made an clicking sound when ejecting randomly. this was replaced under warrenty and works great. when they went to setup everything there was apperantly a bunch of updates that the computer said were available, so they proceded. that took around 2 and a half hours which they said was normal. now the only problem that the tech said was, the AM portion of the radio has 3 different sections to it now which he said is because when they did the update everything was in german, and the AM radio part is still setup that way cause they didn't have time to change it, it has SW, MW, and LW as well as presets for those 3 and autostore features for all 3. That was not the odd part, when I go and look at the language settings it says that I am using English UK and there is now English US or CA, just Spanish and German. the next odd thing is that instead of Car Data to the east direction in the main idrive menu it displays as OBC, inside there it has the UK spelling of words as well as everywhere else in idrive(i.e programme instead of program), the really odd thing that i noticed is that in vehicle settings it has 3 options that where previously not there, the first is something to do with the cruise control, not sure of the exact wording but it seems to have something to do with active cruise which i dont have, it allows you within this setting to set multiple "Stages" of speed, 6 or 7 to be exact. the second strange feature is one that i assume allows you to control how far up the trunk lid on the touring goes, i came to this conclusion due to the fact that it has a picture of a touring with it's lid half up and a bar that seems to let you rase and lower the setting, now this feature cannot be altered and i expect that this is because it knows the car isn't a touring. the final feature is, PDC settings, i also don't have this feature so i cannot make any changes but it's odd that it's suddenly in there nonetheless. other that those features, the radio now has something that displays in the lower bar where the clock and station are that reads TP within the radio "set" button you can select or deselect this and if deselected it reads T. i now have RDS which is nice, underneath the regular store, tone and such is a new selectable "favorites" which i have no idea what that does. when i go to listen to a cd everything is mostly unchanged, there are a couple of features in the "set" menu that i forget what they say, but I now have a submenu under the very top fm, am, cd bar that shows cd, cd 1..... all the way to cd 6, i dont have a changer so im not sure why this shows up. i also now have a AUX function that when selected it says somthing like please connect device. the only other feature that i can remember has been altered is the communications section. when you select this section it show the phone menu which it did before, but with a change, it now says "please connect a phone or..." i cant remember the last part, at the bottom it changes between reading No Network and Car Phone. there is also a SMS tab that is greyed out and bmw assist or w/e it says usually it now reads BMW Mobile. and there is also a refrance to the SOS button not sure what though. I would appreciate any insight that anyone might have as to what the heck is going on with my idrive, sorry for the long post and thanks for any help.

i will post some pics later to show the features that have changed.

Wow dude, it sounds like the dealer screwed up the upgrade. It sounds as though they turned options on the computer that you don't have and probably set you in the wrong region.

Question, do you still get the lawyer screen? People in Europe don't get the lawyer screen that you have to click "ACCEPT" after each startup.

so it is odd ask them to change to US English,

my car is wo Nav so I also have the OBC-On-board Computer, there you have many stuff I also have stopwatch-cool when speeding from 0.

my criuse you can set some maybe less than 7 but like 3-4 settings.

TP- is Traffic info-if you enable it and there is reception you get the traffic programmes -radiostations which are telling ya all the updated infos even if you were listening to music.

They for sure updated you in the States w bad vers, of sw which works but as you wrote not as you desire so ask them to change it, good luck.

There must be a ton of different software images out there - if it's anything like dealing with Cisco gear, you have to wade through dozens of versions before you find the exact one you should be loading for the specific device and modules present. (Then there are the undocumented ones they only give providers

) Sounds like the bozos who did your car were pretty clueless and loaded the wrong one(s). I'd give anything to be able to perform upgrades on my car myself - I'm sure I'd do a better job of it.
