I never had a problem with the normal one during oil changes...

I couldn't imagine metal particles in the oil from an engine that has already been broken in.
But since you are going to buy the part let us know how it works out for you.

Let me know how the ECS ones work out. I bought one of the cheap ones before and the threads fell apart when I went to screw it in and I never bought another one. In theory they should work but in real world I'm not sure how much metal particles its really going to pick up.

I've never used a magnetic plug, I would say that after initial breakdown and an oil change, most metal particles would be gone. But, what I do suggest (need to put one on my e60), but I've used on a bunch of other cars is a "Fumoto Valve" which makes for easy oil changes, no chance of a stripped plug, cracked oil pan from over-tightening...etc. Check it out if you haven't seen one before: http://www.quickoildrainvalve.com/

Until they break on you inside the oil pan! lol....BUT easy to back out because they're hollow. I don't think magnetic ones are and because of that i will pass. I've broken at least 3 in my life and keep a spare on hand.

My first oil change ever was on my new to me E60 and I bought the part from ECS Tuning. The head broke off and I almost shit my pants. The darn thing snapped off so easily. It was really easy to back out, but I'm not going to try another one of those again.
