Default M54 short cranks but will not continue to crank.

04 530 m54.
low battery.. so I’ve been charging it for a half
hour. The car tried to crank and it seems like something is stopping it from cranking. It will try and crank over for half s second and stop. If I hold
the key into the start position is just cycles, - tries to crank then it stops, and tries to crank agin in 1/2 second intervals.
Where do I start? I’ve literallt owned this thing for 3 weeks. I have a scanner but I don’t think it shows any codes. I can check later tonight for codes.
Help!

I should add..
this morning the car fired right up. I went inside as I let it idle for a few minutes.
came back out and it had stalled.
Went to go start and it cranked for 10 seconds and eventually started. A ton of smoke was coming out of the exhaust and as soon as I let off the gas pedal to hold the idle it stalled and I ran into this issue above.

You need some work done on the car. Do not continue to start the car. You will burn out the starter and have another issue on your hands.

Get the codes read and fix the issues. First have the battery tested to make sure it's good. If you are trying to charge a dead battery you're just waisting time. Remember if you install a new battery it must be registered to the car. INPA is a good program to have because it will read every code the modules are reporting. A generic OBD2 reader will just read generic codes from the main module.

No codes.
whelp, issue is pcv. Motor hydrolocked. Car needs a battery and an oil separator.

i pulled the plugs out and cylinder 2/4 are filled with oil. 4 is wet and 2 is filled because the piston is holding the oil.
its not a head gasket because all the cylinders would be oil flooded. It isn’t the piston rings because the oil would have leaked back down the cylinder.
since it was cold
this morning... the pcv froze and the oil got sucked up from the sump into the intake via the dipstick tube and hydrolocked. Took the plugs out and cylinder 2 shot oil out.
So oem pcv and a new battery should do the trick once I cycle all the extra oil out of the intake manifold.

Can somome validate this or tell me im crazy!?

Try it, change the ccv completely (all hoses), clean everything as good as ýou can (oil stick tube!) and hit it. I would perform a compression test before, because the spark plugs are already removed.

You can do this no matter if you are crazy or not.

cannot believe it. I changed the pcv and all the hoses and it solved the issue.. motor was indeed almost hydrolocked. Cylinders had to much oil to move pistons.
I upgraded to the cold weather one and cleaned the cyclinders out of oil with the plugs out by cranking the oil out.
Car runs right again. Only issue is a cps light is on. 😵 sends a cel to the dash. If I reset it it stays off Untill it sits for about half hour. After it sits, it cranks for an extra second or two and fires up. And the cel comes back on the dash.
now what
