M3 Cab to 530d
#1
Hi, I'm very new to the board and wanted to use it to sanitize my recent car changed decision.
I've had an M3 Convertible last 2 years and have really enjoyed it although it was on 19"s and was very skittish.
Due to an impending arrival I needed to buy something slightly more sensible so have decided on a 530d for a few reasons:
1) There isn't anything else out there on the market that comes close.
2) The 3.0d BMW's resale value seems to hold better than most.
3) I drove one and WOW it really felt quick - much quicker than I imagined.
What do people think - is this an un-natural move?
Jason

Hi Teaboy,
Well I had an M3 coupe for 10 years, loved it to bits but becuase of an increasing family also had to make a change from 2 to 4 doors.
I drove the 530i and was naturally disappointed in the performance.
I then drove the 530D and was pleasantly surprised. It has a huge element of excitement different to the M3 but still there. Another factor is I am at 6000 feet above sea level and the turbo makes a huge difference.
I bought the car and addedd the Schnitzer ECU and was even happier.
Also our 530D's are detuned to 150kw yours (assuming you are not in SA) will be 160kw.
Go for it.

I have only to rejoice when i see posts like these. Since i was (and still am) a bmw m3 fan, but never got the oportuninty of buying it. Now soon i will have my 535d and i'm so pleased the car will be very quick as everyone sais the diesels from bmw are no slouch. Anyway what can i say(since i never drove an m3 or a diesel fiver)? good chioce at least from the mileage, space and looks wich are amaizing, and fun from all that torque.

The 530d is a good choice ;
If you want something faster than a M3, then just get your 530d remapped

Hmmm. Don't think a remmap would help u too much in a 530d against the m3. Don't think not even the 535d remapped could do much. Maybe only when overtaking the diesel remaped might be superior but on stand off starts don't think any of those diesels would match the m3.

What's a good 1/4 mile time for a M3 then?
