However I have often thoutht that if I ever owned a more powerful e60 (eg 535i) I would consider de badging to avoid unwanted attention from greasy fingered car thieves. I drive a 535d debadged and I seem to suffer a bit more from others who assume it's a 520 and fancy their chances in the highway Grand Prix. Sometimes it's hard to resist and I rise to the bait! I have considered getting a 520 (or even a 518) badge after I get my remap, just to see the puzzled look on their face after I let them catch up
As for thieves, I think it doesn't matter what it is, if it has a 'D' on the back they're not interested.

A view from Europe.
I ordered my 535d MSport de-badged for two reasons:
1. I don't want people having a go because they just want to see if they can beat the car.
2. I don't want to make it such a target for thieves or keyers.
I am just happy to enjoy the car knowing what it is without telling everyone else
