Just curious if anyone else has had this occur?
Everything operating normally...no visible leaks etc; it just appeared.

As brake pads wear the brake fluid level may get low enough to trigger a warning. Check level and add correct fluid or get to dealer for a top off.

I get the same light, can you use regular brake fluid, or does it require a specific one from BMW ?

BMW would probably say you need the specific one from them, but any high quality DOT 4 should be OK to top it off. If the car is in warranty you might want to take it to the dealer (although there is another thread I saw where a dealer charged to top off the oil). I say this mainly because the reservoir is kind of a pain to get to. You have to remove the plastic cover underhood just in front of the windshield on the drivers side -- this is also the cover for one of the cabin air filters.

Make sure no fluid touches the paint! If it has been over 2 years, the fluid should be replaced anyway.
