Your year brings up a confusing page: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=63_0797

Time to take the cover off the back and see what you have. But if you have the writing like the picture, that should put you to the D1S. Also, if you have no visible lamp in the inner (high beam traditionally) area that would point you to D1S. I believe these will 'wake up' by doing an up/down, then side/side motion.

The older leveling but not side-to-side type should be this one: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=63_0799 I believe these just do an up/down when they wake up.

Confusing... Right?!?

This is what I have:

Inner seems like an h7 bulb and outer is Xenon.

Is it too difficult to simply pull the bulb and look? Also, my zenon lens actually indicates to use the d2s bulb right on it.

I can see an H7 halogen in the inner high-beam position. This is the non-adaptive Xenon system which should take the D2S with the removable igniter. All Xenon systems had to have self-leveling systems by code IIRC.

This system uses the H7 halogen as 'flash to pass', and if it's anything like my E53s, there's a shutter on the Xenon for high-beams.

And that is exactly what I have on my 2005 545. No need to even take the back off, since the lense on the Xenon lamps is stamped D2S on the ring. Sorry no photo.

Looks like your headlight assembly is aftermarket that's why you're missing the writing on the ring.
