it sounds like an exhaust leak IMO - has any work been done on the car recently?

I listened again and it also may be one of your belts is loose, or a pulley is loose, etc - what ever it is it definitely does not sound good

with the car off check to see what your belts look like and see if they feel loose at all

no recent work has been done. I checked the belt after reading CK-e60 DIY on belt replacement the belt is very tight and snug so it's not a loose belt. Not sure about the pulley though. It's driving me crazy but no choice besides bringing it in.

Thanks for the advice.

sounds rough.
maybe a bad idler pulley? bad water pump bearings?
can you take the belt off, to see if the noise is from one of the accessories?

that does not sound normal. check the vacuum pump hose connection on the front passenger side of the block, but that's just a shot in the dark.

Thanks for the suggestion guys.

Brought it to a local indy but the mechanic wasn't available, told me to come back on Monday. Just booked an appointment with the dealer for Monday morning but will attempt to remove the serpentine belt later on to find out if the noise does come from a pulley.

One thing I notice is that the noise is the same at both idling and accelerating so thinking could possibly be a bad pulley.

Sounds like the timing chain to me - like its slopping around.

There are guides + tensioners for the chain which can let go if the old M5 is anthing to go by.

that's what I first thought too but after reading about the timing chain, I thought it was little too soon for it to be loose. It only has 70k miles on it.

After removing the belt, I discovered that my tensioner pulley is failing, at least it sounds like it is so will need to get the part on Monday morning and replacing it.

A question to those who has done this kind of work before, how does the water pump pulley suppose to sound like? I tried spinning it's a bit tight, not as loose as the tensioner pulley but it does make small noise. Is that normal or is it supposed to be super quiet. I searched online but there is not that much info on it. Lots of video and audio clips and the failing tensioner pulley though.

Thank you for your time.

Richard
