It appears one of my little nephews threw my keys in the garbage. The only spare I have is the plastic key. I know I can order one through the dealer but I was wondering if anyone knows if I can but a used key from the junk yard or eBay and have it programmed? Obviously I am trying to find the cheapest way to do it. Any help would be appreciated My car is a 2008 528i incase it matters. Also wondering if anyone knows what it will cost me to order a key through the dealer ? I guess I'll find out tommorrow when I call but I was eager to find out tonite. Thanks

You can pick up used and new keys from eBay....the cost of programming depends on how douchey your dealer is...

I just ordered a new key from the dealer b/c my second key was 'misplaced' on delivery. It was $325 b/c I have comfort access. I think it was about 50 less if you dont have it. Fortunately the dealer footed the bill, but I had to go there with my registration and drivers lic for them to order it. They had it the next day.

NO! Absolutely have to buy through dealer. Let's propagate this idea so people don't make this mistake.

I made this mistake myself.
