TireRack's review and customer ranking for max performance summer tires

Ultra-high performance all-season (may be a better bet in the UK)

Didn't think there were any "sensors" that you could touch or damage...I thought it worked by rolling resistence/drag???

I think it used to measure changes in tire speed relative to others which would indicate a change in pressure, but I'm pretty sure that TPMS on the E60 does now use sensors in the wheels.

I am losing confidence in the grip on my e60.
The tyres do not worn out and I have not put any waxes on the base of the wheels.
But when I corner (semi-hard) the car slips and I ened o quickly correct it.
Anyone know if this is normal or maybe I am pushing it too hard ?

How do you find the cornering is in your m-sports ?

The more I drive on these new OEM runflats, the more I'm reminded of why I ditched them on the Corvette when I got that car. They suck on the corners. Taking fast sweepers are now white knuckle events and the slowest 30 seconds of my life, whereas on the 530i with Goodyear GS-D3s the grip is so much better and the skittishness non-existant. No comparison at all.

Not to highjack the thread but... I am looking for performance plus value (treadwear, grip, road noise etc). From my research, Sumitomo may provide best bang for the buck. What are your experiences and recommendations?
Hey, how about a masage and a hearty bowl of soup while you're at it?

All kidding aside, let's see...you want good treadwear, high grip, and low roadnoise? Well, two of those three are inversely proportional. High grip = soft rubber = bad treadwear. Ever get out on the track? Follow a car on track tires and watch the tires disintegrate. We all want performance plus value, but sometimes we have to compromise one in order to get the other. The question is how much of a compromise you want in any direction.

I look at it this way...my 535 is a car that's meant to be driven moderately hard at times, while most of the time, it's in luxo-cruise mode. Therefore, using your criteria, I emphasise performance and ride. When I'm driving, I want the car to do what I want, and could not care less that I'm not getting 65K miles out of them. Tires, like brakes, are disposable items.

Recommendations...Goodyear GS-D3. I have them on the Vette, as well as an extra set in the garage. 15K mile life, but incredible tires!

Another vote for the GS-D3, it's a stellar tire, although the new F1 Asymmetric tire is also getting good reviews. I personally preferred the GS-D3 to the Michelin PS2's that I run right now. The GS-D3 was great in the dry, unbeatable in the wet, and zero tramlining.

Hey nudda dude

Send in a pic of your own car.

A lack of confidence in your 525d's grip with 166's starts to sound stupid.

A lot of members drive 535dA, 545i and 550i's and have good grip.
