It takes like barely a minute to remove the rear seat bottem out and reninstall it.
There are 2 Wire guides on either door sill , and 2 front clips that spring/tension/lock around two "tabs" that stick up.
That is it holding in in. When you got it out make sure that all 3 of the rear seat belt mounts are in securely ( I think it is a Torx 40 bolt ( it's a really big torx bolt )) Then slide the back end first , lineing up the side guides in to the slots and remember to pull through the Middle seat belt release too ( there is a plastic slot on the top of the seat bottem where it should rest remember this ). Lastly once every thing is lined up give it a good wack on the front over each tab and it will seat.
The only other thing you need to be concerned with is if you have rear heated seats , and the connector I believe is on the left hand side near the side guide ( USDM car, I don't know about Europe or UK)
Here is the PDF if you need picts and a Guide.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still confused. If I'm reading your post correctly... you took your car in the first time to complain about the rear seat corners being "loose" and BMW told you it was normal and didn't change anything...?
However, in light of what BBB posted, I may have to revisit this issue with the SA next time it goes in.

Correct. I had noticed that it pulled up easily, like it wasn't secured, which seemed odd for a $65K vehicle. It wasn't a problem other than my knowing that this happens. There were no shake, rattle, or rolls...just the seat lifting up when you deliberately pulled on it.
However, in light of what BBB posted, I may have to revisit this issue with the SA next time it goes in.

Sounds like the front latches were not locked down... You can reach up under the front lip of the seat bottom and feel if it is not seated correctly, you will feel the tabs are not "latched" in to the seat cushion...
It is kinda a lame system , but the reason for it being easy to remove, I bet, is that the Fuel tank is directly under the rear seat as is the fuel pump... I'm sure you will be happy to hear this. But Don't fret, there is a "Firewall" down there with cut outs to get to the mounting points and the Pumps. I'd not worry to much about it, Unlike a Crown vic, New GTO , or G8.

At least it is inside the Frame rails and has a good bit of crush structure around it... See the Crown vic, mustang ( pre retro style), G8, and GTO on how NOT to locate a Gas tank, particularly for protection in a Rear end crash... Kinda scary
