i agree the bmw navigation is terrible. mine did not come with nav, but i did the CCC retro fit and it obviously was not for the navigation...just got a good deal and wanted to tackle on the install...plus a wider screen and a map following me looks nice lol but i planned to do the same as other said...map it to where it gets crazy, and then switch the disc but use the phone as a "backup"

I use the navigation to look at the roads and traffic on the freeways - I actually like the BMW system. I consider myself pretty good with directions, so will pretty much go around the north east with a general sense of which highway goes where.
There are times when the system has computed the most weird routes, so I guess people can dislike it for that.

95% of the time I am OK with the BMW Nav. I like using it with voice commads, traffic info., re-routing and it is nicely integrated. I am also aware of some of its quirks and work around those. Up until now, I never needed the Region 2 (West) disk, since my road travels extended mostly along the Eastern seaboard from SC to Southern Florida and Maine, and only as far West as Pittsburgh, PA.
However, I find the disk swap routine more than tedious, and I am surprised not to hear about this from members in the switch over states in the middle of the country.
