LOL What an idiot!!!
2005 e60 535d msport 140k miles on the clock
I have to tell you guys what just happened. I feel like a right idiot.
Went for a run yesterday up into the hills of Northumberland UK. Class twisty fast roads. Me and a honda civic type r 2019 had some great fun. Needless to say my car got a hammering. On the way back the power just dies and there's a loud hissing noise from the engine bay. I'm like ''shit'', ''what now''. I've already spent a small fortune on this car. Gearbox, injectors, loads of sensors. I manage to limp home.
Today I get up and start inspecting for boost leaks. Take all the hoses off and there fine. I notice the small turbo has oil and crap all over the bottom of it. ''Please no'' I can't afford Turbos as well. I decide to take the turbo's off and inspect them. No small feat as anyone who has done this job will know. There absolutely fine. No lateral or vertical movement on either spindle, no scoring on the housing and there spinning very nicely and smoothly. The oil and mess appears to have come from the oil feed to the small turbo. I'm like 'what the hell can it be''.
Next I start thinking about taking the intercooler off to inspect it and see if it has burst. Around this time my mate calls in having heard my tale of woe he's come round to have a laugh at my expense. Within 2 minutes he's like ''rich, whats that''?. I look up and see that the MAP sensor has popped out of its rubber grommet on the inlet manifold. I'm like ''you gotta be effing kidding me''. The rubber grommet had perished in my annual inlet manifold clean out. Must of been the petrol had dried it out. So I spent another 2 and a half hours putting it all back together again with my mate pi**ing himself laughing at me.
Waiting on a grommet from ebay.

You're not an idiot.
Sometimes its good to have a second set of eyes back check you just in case you may have possibly overlooked something obvious.

I think I have but not recently.
I know but its a lesson learned to really have a good look first before getting the tools out. At least I got to inspect my turbo's.

Troubleshooting an issue can and often is a daunting task. You will always feel like an a** when it is something simple you may have overlooked. Live and learn and always be able to laugh at oneself. Good story.
