I kinda have to agree... I just traded my '04 530 with a standard stereo for a '07 530 with L7. To me, it just doesn't sound nearly as good as my '00 Lexus GS with Mark Lev.
I DO NOT think this was worth $1800... Maybe $500 for the extra base, but I really thought I was upgrading to the "Mark Lev" sound in my Bimmer.
Oh well, second (out of 4 ) bimmers where I was oversold. I guess I'll never learn.

Jksanford,
But what I want to know is not whether it was worth $1800, but how it sounds compared to the standard stereo that was in your '04. Better? Worse?

I am really not into the L7 system, don't get me wrong I think the Logic7 processing is great, ran a Lexicon DC2 processor in my home cinema system and then the MC-8B, and for home theater it is great. But not for music.
Friend has the L7 system in his 5er and loves it, but he also uses Denon amp at home with Bose speakers and loves that.
Perosnally I think it sounds like a fire in a pet shop, and much prefer my Meridian, Classe and Dunlavey set up, and actually prefer the standard set up to the L7 in the 5er. Why do people want to add a centre speaker in a car when playing STEREO??!!
I use trifield at home which is regarded as the best processing out there, but still is not as good as 2 channel when playing 2 channel recordings.
I am going to change the speakers for Rainbow components soon, but for now although not perfect it is better than the L7 for me.

It does sound like there are more speakers "louder", but not better. In the Lexus, if you turned up the volume on a good sound (whether I thought it was a good song, or my wife thought it was a good song --- two separate types of music), the sound was amazing. In this car, it just sounds louder.

It's OK, but certainly not worth $1700 or whatever the going freight is. Maybe $500?

IMHO, the Logic 7 in the 5-series is one of the best OEM systems on the market. Flat equalizer settings and Concert Hall mode make for a VERY enjoyable listening experience, rivaling my Bryston/Vandersteen home system.
In comparison, the wife and I were VERY disappointed with the Mark Levinson systems in the 2006 GS300 and LS430. Compared to the Logic 7, the ML systems sounded lifeless and anemic! The Nakamichi sound system in my wife's '98 Lexus even sounded better! Fortunate for me, because the wife was considering a new Lexus until she heard the ML sound systems.

Logic 7 is very good! It is 10x better than the Harman Kardon in the e46 M3. It is also much, much better than the system in my wife's RX 330. I think it could be better, and I did add my bass box and amp I took out of my M3. But all in all I was very happy even before I made this modification.
