i think you confused I6 for an L 
because i was like wtf for a second
but i drive an 04 530i and my uncle has an 06 530i, theres no noticable difference in performance from what i feel(street driving), heck id rather have my car over his because he treats it like crap and mine would actually pass as "newer"

The two 2006 models were only in the US I think. 2006 was the first year that they released cars in March instead of September, and there are two distinct 2006 models that have nothing to distinguish them on an auction or dealer inventory sheet. Again, I'd almost argue to go with the spring cars with the black grills. Having less new technology, I think it might represent a high point in E60 reliability. Mine didn't go in for service for the entire first 2 years.
