The probelm is not the reception. Satellite radio is digital, not analog. You either get reception or you don't.
The problem (not dissimilar from satellite tv and to a lesser extent, digital cable) is the compression of the audio signal. In order to get 100+ channels of music, XM and Sirius muct compress the audio. The effect is like ripping a CD to MP3 at a low bit rate. It's really very bad in my opinion (and yet I still subscribe becuase I like to get Fox News and CNN)...compressing voices is not a big deal, it's the music (think: drum symbol crashes) that really shows how bad it is. What's amazing is that they claim "CD Quality"...baloney.

This is digital radio

Sirius does have poor sound quality. I have heard XM in other cars, it suffers the same poor sound quality. But I listen to sports and talk radio stations, so the sound quality does not really come into play. I not a big music guy, but the music channels do sound horrible.

My car has only basic must have options. No such problem for me. I would give up leather seats if I could.

Have yet to even fold down the rear seats. Some have said the standard non-fold down seats are actually more comfortable.

I'm very happy with all my options too, but there are some included in packages that I have no use for--automatic headlights for one. They are too sensitive, and are therefore on so much more than necessary. But you have to have them on to get the adaptive/cornering feature, so I just leave them on (I could just switch them to automatic every time I want headlights, but that seems like it kind of defeats the purpose). The headlight washers seem to be a bit of a waste too--I don't know if anyone can really tell the difference in vision between clean and dirty headlights, and they spray the washer fluid all over my hood when used at high speeds. As for the sport package, I'll take it all....

BTW, car ('08 528i) has been a gem so far at 3200 miles....

None...I use all the options that I have. However, I do wish that I did get Comfort Access.

FYI, You can have the sensitivity adjusted at the dealer.
