I would screw them in and then put a little strip of double sided tape on the bottom so it doesnt make that cheap ringing sound when you close the trunk.
I actually used these little soft rubber pieces that you use at the bottom of chairs to prevent scratching the floors. Can easily be bought at any good hardware shop. Stuck it to the back of the plate and then the plate is screwed to the car. This way, when I polish the car its easy to remove the plate to wash and polish the boot properly AND it doesn't clunk when I close the bootlid.

I didnt like the idea of double sided tape as the dealers here put to prevent the cheap ringing sound when the bootlid is shut.

cheers

"Screw it!!!" (LOL just kiddding), . . . but I agree with 'Krozi' and I did my that way and it works great and with NO adverse noises what I close my trunk as it did it by using the four screws with caps, and using double sided tape between the back of my tag plate and the metal truck lid it sits next to.

I can't believe I'm giving this thought brain cycles. Are there people that actually tape their license plate on? I stop at Euro stickers people....

double sided tape is good if/when you get or want to avoid the no front plate ticket as well

model badges, spoilers and trunk finishers are also held on via double sided tape...

don't knock it
